Alfred Schnittke

Nothing to report on the layout front so was looking for some images on Google and came up with this beautiful O scale SNCF steam engine - the ubiquitous 141R.

Believe it or not there is a dealer for this locomotive in Kirkcaldy, Scotland.

It is not an electric train, it is oil-fired and costs approx £2,500.

HO (that's the scale I am using) means half-O scale ie 1/87 versus 1/43.

Here is a comparison between the two scales.

Volume is such a deceiving concept. Clearly the HO loco in the picture is half the length, half the height and half the width of the O scale example. But that equates to  1/8th of the volume.

Alfred Schnittke:

A Russian composer born in 1934 and died in 1998.

Today's listening - his magnificent and atmospheric and dramatic Piano Quintet.

Rather a good portrait of him from Wikipedia.
