Connecting PECO HO track

Sometimes (but for some reason, not always) when one connects two sections of PECO track a large space separates the adjacent end sleepers.

One can fill the gap by cutting off a sleeper from any off-cuts of track.

And slipping it under the rails. No need to pin it in position. The ballasting will eventually surround it.

Period instruments

Regarding yesterday's comments about period instruments: I've had second thoughts.

On Radio 3 this morning, a well-known conductor was quoted as having said that the reason an orchestra should play on instruments from the period in which the piece was composed was NOT to be authentic but was to sound better. After all, the composer created and rehearsed and adjusted the piece so as to exploit the sound world of those instruments. If he was composing for modern instruments he would probably have written the piece differently.

Looks like the old credit card will be coming out to buy tickets for the Orchestre des Champs Elysées, 20th August, Edinburgh.
